Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be able to access my home during the works?

No. Unfortunately, you will be unable to freely access your home whilst the work is in progress due to health and safety laws. However, you can contact our team who will be able to arrange joint access in order for you to see the progress of the works.

What about policy excess?

Certus may be required to take payment of the policy excess. Please note that no reinstatement works can commence until policy excess has been paid.

How long will the work take?

This is dependent on the extent of works to be undertaken. We will discuss this with you and agree a completion date prior to the works commencing. We will keep you updated throughout the project.

Will you be using my gas, electric and water?

Yes. Supplies will be required throughout the building works. Some insurers allow policy holders to be reimbursed for the cost as part of the claim. Please confirm with your insurance company.

Will you provide separate facilities?

Yes. We will ensure that adequate temporary facilities are provided for our team during the works.

Will my home be kept secure?

Yes. We have experience working in empty properties and we will provide adequate security.

Do I need to maintain my insurance cover?

Yes. You need to maintain your insurance cover and notify your insurer that the property will be empty for a period of time and that building works are being carried out within it.

Can I choose my own fittings and decorations?

Yes. Our customer service team will contact you to confirm your choices. This will include kitchen and bathroom layout and fittings, finishes such as wall and floor tiling and decorative finishes, such as wallpaper and paint.

Who is dealing with my contents claim?

We deal with the building and reinstatement part of the claim only. If you are covered for contents, this will be dealt with separate to the work we undertake. Please refer to your insurer.

Can I request an upgrade or carry out private works?

Yes, in some cases. Policyholders often take the opportunity to upgrade their home while the insurance reinstatement works is being undertaken. We can discuss the feasibility of this with you and provide a cost estimate for the works. However please note it is our company policy that any additional works must be paid for in full prior to the works commencing.

Who is responsible for health and safety within my home?

We are. We are responsible for health and safety at the point the project begins. Some of the works are extensive and could present a risk, therefore access to your home throughout the works will be controlled.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes. This will depend on your insurance policy, however generally, work is subject to a minimum six-month defect period. We will also provide all product guarantees and certificates where appropriate.
